West Virginia And Alabama Top List Of Sleepy States

If you live in West Virginia or Alabama, you are living in one of many southeastern states that are at the top of the list for sleep deprivation!

The recent Penn Medicine Study discoverd a pattern of state and regional sleep issues in the United States. The study analyzed nationwide data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), creating the first state-by-state sleep map of the United States showing who suffers most from sleep disturbances and daytime fatigue. Those living in West Virginia or Alabama were among the states found to have "bad sleep. The results are published online in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.

Michael A. Grandner, PhD was the ead author of the study and is a research associate at the Center for Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology at Penn. He and his team examined many factors including demographics, obesity, health, and and levels of sunlight in states. They were able to determine that differences in mental health, race/ethnicity, and access to medical care were the strongest factors to explain the differences between those states with good sleep and those with bad sleep.

The map, from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania shows clearly how those in West Virginia and Alabama are sleep challenged. It seems that where you live can impact how well you sleep. This study also reinforces why you should make your sleep expierience as positive as it can be...and why it should including comfortable bedding.
